A Study on the Perceptions of Art Therapy Identity between Art Therapy Managers and Art Therapists : A Concept Map

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze in the perception of art therapy identity, between art therapy managers and therapists using concept mapping method. In the process, we conducted in-depth online interview of nine art therapy managers and nine art therapy operators. The perception of art therapy identity was categorized into two-dimensional groups of four factors and 57 statements within the group of managers, and categorized into two-dimensional groups of five factors and 53 statements within the group of therapists. As regards the identity of art therapy, the art therapy manager group was classified, on the two levels of therapist-client and tool-effectiveness, into four respective clusters: the professionalism factor of art therapy, the effectiveness factor of art therapy, the client factor of art therapy, and the factor of the art medium. In comparison, the art therapists group was classified, on the two levels of client-effectiveness and external elements-internal elements, into five clusters: the professionalism factor of art therapy, the differentiation factor of art therapy, the factor of the art medium, the effectiveness factor of art therapy, the client factor of art therapy. This study was able to establish that there is a difference in the perception of art therapy identity, between art therapy program managers within a clinical setting and art therapists who actually carry out the programs. The study results showed that professionalism is the most important factor in the perception of an art therapy identity.
